Our Little Haven Mourns the Loss of a Trustee, Husband, Father, and PaPa

Dr. Peter A. Hummel, DDS

Hummel, Peter A., 86, made his journey Home, fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, on July 17, 2019. Pete’s life-journey was saturated with God; love; friends; family; a successful dental practice; service to his country through the US Air Force; service to the community through numerous charities with a significant impact on Our Little Haven.

A loving husband to Dixie (Cohen) Hummel for 58 years they met at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX. It was love at first sight as a young Capt. Peter Hummel met a younger Lt. Nurse Dixie Hummel – they married at the base Chapel in 1961. Pete and Dixie retired from the USAF, moved to St. Louis and it wasn’t long before young Scott appeared! Pete was proceeded in death by his parents Peter & Helen Hummel; and his brother Robert.

Pete takes glorious leave from his wife Dixie; his son Scott; his daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and three grandchildren: Maggie, Peter and Sarah (all of whom claim to be PaPa’s favorite!); his sister, Mary Helen Gioia, her husband, Mario; his sister-in-law, Frieda (Robert) Hummel; his brother-in-law Kenneth (Cherry) Cohen; many friends, nieces and nephews.

Dr. Hummel’s achievements were remarkable, all dedicated to the Greater Glory of God and too numerous to mention.  He was a proud alum of St. Pius in south St. Louis, St. Louis University High School, St. Louis University and SLU Dental School; and the USAF 819thMedical Group. A loving husband, faithful friend, strong father, and doting PaPa to the 3 grandkids. Pete was a faith-filled companion, a good neighbor, a community leader, and mentor to many. Pete squeezed every drop of fun from all life had to offer. While he will be missed, we know he is off to Glory.
